this time we are having a baby boy come along in a few months.
off course nothing is ever easy, my wife is extremely anemic to the extent we are being referred to a hematologist for iron and/or packed red blood cells and potential full blood transfusions.
I was just reading an article that explained that repeated and long term exposure to false information will always leave a trace. Even years after a person learns that the information is wrong, and now knows and accepts the correct information, his reaction is slightly influenced or delayed because of the lingering false info.
So I guess we all have the same. It's an unconscious effect of how our brain works.

I'm on the online library quite often, doing apostate research.
so today the well-respected and serious newspaper trouw.nl came with child abuse within the jw as their topmost frontpage article.. the articles are well researched and aim primarily at the dutch jw situation.. afaik at least on member of this forum assisted the newspaper with the articles.

i am pimo but attended the r.c yesterday for family pressure reasons.
a "sister" i've not seen for a while told me her husband is overjoyed because a man he called on recently in the field service suddenly told him he wanted to attend the r.c.
the unusual thing is, this man is a millionaire having built a property portfolio.
Because unfortunately nobody is immune to cult recruitment tactics...
Maybe the guy is lonely and loves the JW attention.
Maybe the guy is scared for his death coming closer.
Maybe.....something else. Who knows.

Anyway we also have New York Pizza over here, but I think they suck. Can't even remember last time I had a slice of their pizza. It just doesn't appeal to me.
Also PizzaHut but there's something about their logo that isn't right. Or maybe it's just because they're not anywhere near me. There is only one PizzaHut in the whole country, but they have their own independent menu. Apparently PH is not a success over here :-p
We don't have Papa John's yet; they may come to NL with 1 shop this year, but that will probably be 300km away from my home.
What are your favorites? Least I can do is check the website and drool over foodporn...

I didn't even know that! Here in the Netherlands 'American' pizza mainly means thick and softer crust/bottom, as opposed to the thin and crispy Italian pizza.
If Domino's pizza has a universal recipe: that's what I like! But maybe I would like some other style - yet unknown to me - even better :-D

I prefer American style pizza over Italian. Although good Italian pizza with a glass bottle of ruby red isn't punishment either :-)

it's not the fact that the author condones slavery and never tells his readers that it's bad to own slaves - it's not that that will bring reproach on the religion, no!

Jewish males could be freed. Females were not (if I recall correctly).
Also the female slaves could be 'married' to their owner or his son just like that (I call that rape and sex slavery).
And foreign slave (those captured during wars) were never freed.
Regardless of all that, those were Jewish customs. The letter to Timothy is from the Christian era. They had to deal with Jewish, Roman and Greek slave owners, all with their own customs regarding slavery. Some (classes of) slave were treated relatively well, others were brutally abused.
How hard could it be for God to tell Christian slave owners to free all their slaves?
How hard could it be for God to tell people it is plain wrong to buy, own and sell other people like cattle, and deny them basic human rights and freedom?

I agree with all who say a talk like this was long overdue. I also applaud any improvement Watchtower makes to their policies, regardless of their motives or whether it's not nearly enough improvements.
Yet I think this talk may even worsen the problem! Yes, parents are told to be vigilant. And they're told in almost all cases the abuser is someone the child knows, which is very useful information.
But with the common distrust of non-JW and the blind trust of all JW within the 'spiritual paradise', a talk like this should mention explicitly that abusers can hide within congregations as well. But all examples focus on non-JW activities.
This silently reinforces the very much false notion that only non-JW abuse children. This may make the parents even less vigilant towards inappropriate behaviour of JW towards (their) children. And it's other JW that are closest to JW children....
